A Guide to Buying Second Hand Fridges

When you plan to buy a fridge, many people recommend buying a second hand fridge. This is because such huge appliances cost a great deal when they are squeaky-clean and brand new. Fridges are expensive but have a long life. Any type of refrigerator can last for almost 2 decades with negligible maintenance costs. Most of the owners discard it far more sooner than its life expectancy ends. This is where you can gain. You can get a perfectly functioning second hand fridge at an extremely low cost. The best part is, a second hand fridge if bought after due inspection, has no maintenance charges just like a brand new one. Most refrigerator owners get lured by the newly introduced technologies in fridges and thus cut loose their older models even if they have several years of life left. There are instances when people buy a new fridge just because the old one no longer fits in the newly modeled kitchen or the charges to transport it while shifting from one place to another is too high. So, that is where you can reap your benefits. But before you decide to buy a second hand fridge, you need to know that there are some downsides to this if you are negligent while purchasing.

There Are Some Points to Ensure Before Buying a Second Hand Fridge:

  1. Research Models Beforehand: When you are buying a pre-used fridge, you do not know about how well-maintained the fridge is. So, to ensure that the one you buy is of good quality, research all the models of refrigerators and get details about all those models which did not fare well in the market so that you can avoid buying such models. Check details related to energy ratings and brand name ranks. Sellers can fool you saying their fridge is the best brand but if you have already done your homework well, you will know the reality. Thus, by doing a little research, you can take a well-informed decision.

  2. A Detailed Inspection of The Unit: You need to conduct some minor checks to ensure there are no working defects in the model. Place a paper piece between the door and the fridge and then close the door. Now, try pulling the paper out. If it comes out easily, the door does not close tightly enough to conserve the coldness. So, this means the gasket has to be replaced. This is the most common issue in used fridges. So, when you buy one, check this first and if you spot this problem, you can ask the seller to reduce the price further.

  3. Here Is a List of All the Things You Need to Check and Inspect:

  4. Door Seal: The door should be able to be tightly closed.

  5. Smell: There should be no pungent odor embedded in the fridge.

  6. Odd Noises: Listen to the compressor start up and go to standby. Ensure that there are no odd sounds. Odd sounds mean that there is a defect in the working.

  7. The Drip Pan and The Condenser Coils: There should be no deposits over these two parts.

  8. Shelves and Drawers: check all these parts to ensure there is no breakage and all are smooth in sliding as well as are easily removable for cleaning.

  9. The Interior Lights and Temperature Controls: These small things are often ignored while inspection and also, they are the most commonly out of order parts. So, ensure that you inspect these thoroughly.

All these minute points are of great importance while buying a second hand fridge. If you fail to thoroughly follow these points, you may end up with a bad deal and the benefits of buying a second hand fridge would be lost.
